ICEHOTEL 365
Jukkasjärvi, Sweden
The original ICEHOTEL is rebuilt every winter from ice cut out of the Torne River and melts back into it each spring. ICEHOTEL 365 is the answer to what happens in between: a permanent structure, cooled by solar power through the midnight-sun months, holding art suites and an ice bar at a steady temperature all year. Artists are selected annually and each suite is carved to its own design, so the rooms change even though the building does not. Guests sleep on ice beds under reindeer hides and thermal sleeping bags, with warm rooms and saunas a short walk away for everything that is not sleeping.
In brief. Year-round ice structure at Jukkasjärvi, roughly 200 km inside the Arctic Circle; ice cut from the Torne River; suites carved anew each season.
